After a catastrophic accident, Liska goes into the woods to seek out a legendary flower that blooms once a year, that is rumored to grant you a wish. Her wish was to get rid of her evil magic that got her in that situation to begin with.
But she runs into the Leszy, the demon warden of the woods, who captures her, and offers her a deal - serve him for a year, and he will grant her her wish.
When she agrees, she isn’t expecting that she will find her place in a world that accepts her for who she is.
The book is steeped in Polish folklore, which was completely foreign to me, and so fascinating!
I was on the edge of my seat waiting to learn the details of the incident that started Liska’s problems!
I also enjoyed seeing her interactions with the sentient manor, the cat, the ghost dog, and the other side characters.
