Polly Strong (Editor, Translator), Rodney Wimer (Editor, Illustrator). Twelve stories translated from oral presentations by storytellers among the Mandjia and Banda peoples of the Central African Republic. The selections combine elements of folktales, fables, and proverbs and many feature Tere, a supernatural figure. The tellings are enriched by the villagers' expressive and appealing manner of speech. Attractive sepia line drawings and silhouettes frequently appear.
