Children of the New World : A Novel of the Algerian War

An interesting read from the point of view of various characters living one 24-hour day in the Algerian war for independence. Each chapter tells the story of a different character, connected to the others by family or circumstance. Women cloistered and secluded in private family space, men going through their daily lives while secretly participating in the resistance, and a police officer, seen by his fellow countryfolk as a traitor. Nobody's situation is quite what it seems and nothing is straightforward. I enjoyed it, although I did struggle a bit with some of the language and the writing style, and I never know if that's the writer or the translation.
