Juan de Recacoechea was born in La Paz, Bolivia, and studied and worked as a journalist in Europe for almost twenty years. After returning to his native country, he founded Bolivia's first state-run television network and dedicated himself to writing novels. Recacoechea currently works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is the author of seven works of fiction. American Visa, which won Bolivia's National Book Award and was turned into a hit film, is his first novel translated into English.
