A good introduction to the war in "Novorossiya"/southeastern Ukraine, told in real time as it unfolded (in 2014). This is valuable background for the current (2022) war of Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine. The parties of conflict, the causes, identities, aims of combatants and units weren't always easy to follow in reading as (if I understand correctly) in the war itself. The difference between national loyalty, ethnic background, language, and political aims are drawn out here in a useful way.
